Kelly Park Community Garden

The Logy Bay–Middle Cove–Outer Cove Development Association launched a community garden with 13 raised organic beds, and over the past three years, an additional 16 beds have been added. Several of these plots are used by students from St. Francis of Assisi School as part of their outdoor learning program. Throughout the school year, students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 visit the garden to plant, tend, and harvest their crops. Children in the community’s summer park program also spend time in the garden, watering and caring for the beds during their break. These hands-on gardening experiences help youth build lifelong skills in growing and cooking food, fostering healthy eating habits from an early age.

Each year, the harvest from the school plots is donated to the North East Avalon Food Bank, providing fresh potatoes and carrots to approximately 140 families who receive Thanksgiving and Christmas hampers.
